About Me
Hello, my name is Katie Thomas and I am currently a freshman at Eau-Claire University of Wisconsin majoring in Advertising and minoring in Environment, Society, and Culture. I chose this as my minor because I have always had a strong passion for animals and wildlife. Growing up in a family dedicated to restoring the environment made me conscious at a young age how we as a society play a strong role in our ecosystem and the animals that live there. Although I am not a vegetarian, I saw animals as living creatures that deserved to be treated in a respectful manner. One of the traditions my family has is to honor the meat before we eat it. We say the simple verse, “God bless the beast,” before we eat because we believe that the animals that were killed for our consumption should be appreciated. I remember hearing about KFC in 2004 when a video came out showing disgusting abuse towards chickens. I was immediately repulsed and vowed to never support a company that mistreated their animals. KFC used to be one of my favorite places to eat as a child. Now I see the company for who they are: as malicious torturers.
